Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is exercise rehabilitation conducted in water under the supervision of an experienced physiotherapist.

The anti-gravity effect and warmth of the water makes hydrotherapy useful in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, including osteoarthritis, inflammatory joint disease, fibromyalgia and chronic pain.  Hydrotherapy is also an important part of the rehabilitation of early fracture management and joint replacement surgery. The water’s cushioning effect allows resistance for maintaining strength and fitness, as well as increasing speed and endurance.

The physiotherapist will provide a ‘water based’ exercise program which complements ‘land based’ therapy, to enhance and maximise recovery.

The benefits of hydrotherapy include:

  • Increases mobility, strength and co-ordination
  • Decreases swelling and pain
  • Maintains strength and fitness

Brighton Spinal Group conducts Hydrotherapy classes at the Brighton Swim School, adjacent to the clinic premises.

A physiotherapy assessment is required at Brighton Spinal Group prior to commencing hydrotherapy; please phone administration on 9596 7211 for more information.
