Rehabilitation Physicians provide specialist knowledge and expertise in the prevention, assessment, management and medical supervision of a person with a disability. They diagnose and assess a person's function associated with injury, illness or chronic medical conditions and develop an exercise based treatment plan involving pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures with the goal of maximising function, independence and participation in the community.

Areas of expertise include managing patients with
- neurological conditions such as acquired brain injury, stroke, polio, multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury
- pain associated with arthritis, spinal dysfunction and trauma
- orthopaedic conditions such as fractures, osteoporosis and joint replacement
- chronic disease such as heart failure, COPD and cancer
- reduced function after medical illness and post surgery

Nathan Johns

Dr Nathan Johns is a Rehabilitation Physician being a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. He treats a broad group of patients to reduce their functional limitations or disabilities and improve quality of life. This includes patients with chronic pain, arthritis, spinal or joint dysfunction, joint replacement, acquired brain injury including stroke, traumatic brain injury and multiple sclerosis as well as cardiac rehabilitation and deconditioning after surgery or illness. He specialises in treating complex patients with multiple medical, physical, functional and psychosocial problems including the elderly, DVA, TAC and Workcover patients. Dr Johns is the Medical Director at St John of God Nepean Rehabilitation in Frankston and a Consultant Rehabilitation Physician at Epworth Rehabilitation Brighton.
