GLAD – Osteoarthritis of Knees and Hips

GLA:D in Brighton

What is the GLA:D program?

The Good Life with Osteoarthritis; Denmark (GLA:D) is an education and exercise-based program for people with hip and/or knee osteoarthritis. The program has been successful worldwide by enabling people with joint-related osteoarthritis to continue living their lives with managed levels of pain. The purpose of the program aims to reduce symptom progression (by up to 32% according to the research) and reduce pain through various strengthening and endurance-based exercises.

What is the structure of the GLA:D program?
  • 6-week program that is tailored towards the individuals’ capabilities – the first session will be an introduction, education and assessment to determine the best program for you.
  • The structure of the program is entirely individual dependent, but places a strong emphasis on 2 x 45-minute exercise sessions per week, utilizing gym equipment to target the hips and knees.
  • Supervised exercise by one of our GLA:D accredited Physiotherapists, Sabine Groscurth or Mitch Kornberg, allows for technique correction and progressive loading of each exercise based on difficulty to keep improving your strength.

The GLA:D program aims to kick-start your exercise journey and our team of Physiotherapists at Brighton Spine & Sports clinic are here to guide you. Ongoing management of symptoms through cardiovascular & strengthening exercises after the program has finished is crucial in managing your levels of pain and continuing to be able to do everything you want to do in your day-to-day life.
