Exercise Physiology at Brighton Spine & Sports Clinic
At Brighton Spine & Sports Clinic, we are excited to now offer Clinical Exercise Physiology, a safe and supportive way to help you move more comfortably, manage your health condition, and feel more confident in your body.
What is an Exercise Physiologist?
Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) are university-qualified health professionals who specialise in using exercise as medicine. They understand how the body works and how to design programs that are safe, effective, and tailored to your unique needs.
Whether you are managing a chronic condition, recovering from an injury, or simply wanting to feel stronger and more active, an Exercise Physiologist can help you take the next step.
AEP’s can help with:
- Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes
- Heart and lung conditions
- High blood pressure
- Balance and falls prevention
- Osteoporosis and osteopenia
- Arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
- Back pain and musculoskeletal injuries
- Weight management and metabolic health
- Mental health (including anxiety and depression)
- Cancer recovery and oncology support
- Neurological conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s and MS
Never exercised before? That’s okay.
You don’t need to be fit or experienced to begin. AEP’s will meet you exactly where you are. Your first session is all about understanding your goals, current ability, and what feels comfortable for you. Every exercise plan is personalised to suit your health, lifestyle, and level of confidence.
AEP’s approach is holistic and supportive. They will take the time to understand your medical history, current symptoms, medications, and how you are feeling both physically and mentally. If you have been living with pain or fear of movement, AEP’s will move gently and help you rebuild a healthy relationship with movement and exercise.
Brighton Spine & Sports Clinic offers a supportive 1:1 environment where you will be heard, understood, and encouraged. You will also receive education and practical tools to help you feel more in control and confident moving forward.
Our Exercise Physiologist will also work alongside your GP, Physiotherapist, or other health professionals to make sure your care is well-coordinated.
What to expect:
Your initial appointment (around 60 minutes) provides enough time to get to know and understand you. AEP’s will talk with you about your medical history, past and current symptoms, goals and then begin some gentle assessments and discuss a personalised plan moving forward.
After this, you will receive your individual exercise and treatment program, designed to suit your needs. During 30-minute follow-up sessions, your progress will be built on, your plan adjusted as needed, and keep you moving forward with confidence.
Our Exercise Physiologist, Helen, has over 20 years of experience working in the allied health and fitness industry. She specialises in helping people with chronic pain, fear of movement, and complex medical conditions.
Her programs are always personalised, practical, and evidence-based, with a strong focus on building confidence and independence. Helen will always work at a pace that feels right for you with your comfort and progress guiding every step.
Her focus is all about providing you with autonomy and the tools to improve your quality of life so you can “just get on with life!”
